Getting through the Festive Season with Healthy Thinking
A few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of attending a Farmstrong Healthy Thinking workshop. Sponsored by FMG and the Mental Health Foundation, Farmstrong are running workshops throughout New Zealand to encourage healthy thinking in our rural communities.
This was an excellent programme facilitated by Dr. Tom Mulholland (find out more about him at www.drtomonamission.com) where the focus was on how we can manage our thinking to get great results for ourselves and the people around us. Based on the concept that thoughts are upstream of emotions, healthy thinking is about managing your thoughts so that you can make positive choices around your behaviours. Powerful stuff...
And as we approach the festive season it is important to remember to be happy and according to CBT therapist Christine Wilding you can, with practice, change negative thinking habits quite easily.
So as we enter this period of the year where we think of others, hold our families close (either physically or from afar), and get our minds set for a new year; think about what's going to really make you happy, what you can control (and what you can't) and take the time to reflect on the positive things in your world...
