Focus on recovery...but don't forget to celebrate!

Kiwi culture is notorious for its understatement.  And whilst we are often quietly proud of our successes we seldom shout them from the rooftops.  Our success with COVID-19 is another example of this.  We are letting the world ‘find out’ about our success story by ‘looking at the numbers’ and monitoring our media; we don’t want to appear smug when so many others are still suffering; we know we are privileged in that we can feed ourselves confidently from within our borders; we have been lead through this crisis with a people-centric focus….

We have been lucky, we are privileged and there is still a lot of work to do….

But I urge all New Zealanders to mark this time in a symbolic way.  Plant a tree, share a meal, gather the neighbourhood, have a party, bury a time capsule…do not let this moment for celebration pass.  This is a week we want remember, to be able to look back on it and say as a nation, a community, a workplace, a family…

OUR TEAM OF 5M...WE DID IT!
